Car Hire Information ...

imageHiring a car will have to be considered if you are flying into Alicante or you feel you may want to see more of the region of Murcia.
In the last 10 years the hire companies have considerably changed their policies so be aware of clever advertising and please do your research before committing.

There are many options to go for, but from experience we would recommend that you don't always go for the cheapest. The lowest advertised price will not be what you pay and in some cases it could end up being considerably more.
The reasons will be the added cost of fuel charges where a "Full - Empty" policy is offered and what insurance you have or have not chosen. So, there are local options that actually show the total price, what you see is what you get, but will appear far more expensive, they may well not be and almost certainly will be easier to deal with.

We suggest you take a copy of the directions, to the villa, available to print from our "Downloads" page, if you choose to hire a car or are taking a taxi from the airport.

There are some suggestions below to try and get some idea of the cost.

Points to ponder ...............

  • Don't always choose the cheapest as it may not offer you the most convenient package or the best FINAL price.
  • Some operators have offices in the arrivals hall, some have their vehicles off airport and will take you in a mini bus and some will meet and greet.
  • If booking through a portal, do take the extra insurance BUT take it with the portal company, it is much cheaper than taking it at the point of collection from the actual hire company.
  • If you take the insurance most operators will still require a security deposit at the point of collection which is not actualy taken but "Pre-authorised"
  • Most, if not all operators require payment by Credit Card, in the name of the principle driver.
  • It is the law in Spain to carry your driving licence with you when in the vehicle.

Taxis are available at the airport, outside the arrivals hall. Many of the drivers do not speak English so we would suggest you click "Directions to Villa" and print a copy to assist in a smooth transfer. It could help to avoid any confusion, the journey is about 30 mins. The picture above is the taxi rank in Los Alcazares where you can arrange your return to the airport or a ride during your stay. Walking ...

imageOf course you could just walk ! The locality is flat everywhere and is a delight to wander and take in the vista. The beach is a 15mins stroll and the local Plaza with bars, restaurants and shops just 10mins and centre of Los Alcazares about 20mins. The beach has a 5kms (3mls) paved promenade with a boarded wetland bird reserve at the eastern end all of which can also be cycled. Nowhere is far to walk, the promenade from one end and back is around 10kms (6mls), but of course there are plenty of places to stop!
