Cartagena - The Roman Amphitheatre

Just 20 mins away you will find the hugely historic city of Cartagena. Dating back before the Romans who certainly left their mark. Found by accident some 20 years ago you can now see the restored Roman Amphitheatre in the centre of the city.

The beautiful marbled streets offer relaxed sight seeing down to large port and Marina where yaughts of ALL sizes can be seen enjoying the safety of the narurally protected harbour.

Santiago de la Ribera

A bike ride past the San Javier Airport will take you to Santiago de la Ribera, worth a visit of a Wednesday if you missed the Tuesday market in Los Alcazares.

Cabo de Palos

Found at the most western end of the Mar Menor with stunning views of La Manga from the Mediterranean is Cabo de la Palos. An excellent location for a lunch date overlooking the beautiful harbour.

La Manga

A lagoon by nature cannot be driven around but geographically you can drive to the end of the "La Manga Strip", which can be seen across the lagoon from Los Alcazares. At it's narrowest point the strip is just 100m wide.

Cabo de Palos

Cabo is also the site of an impressive light house, which can be visited and a walk around the spit of land will offer a 2 sided view of this unusaul location.

Portman

On the coast between Cabo de Palos and Cartagena, Portman is the subject of an interesting environmental recovery operation and is well worth a visit.

A View from Aledo

High in the Sierra Espuna Aledo is a small town with a very big view. Approximately an hour away by car is the Espuna National Park. You can climb to almost 5000ft, if you don't like bends then it's probably not the place for you. A fantastic day out!

Lo Pagan

At the most eastern end of the lagoon Lo Pagan is a bird watchers paradise. Flamingos in there 1000s can be seen at the right time on the salt flats and here is to be found the famous lagoon mud that is so famed for it's medicinal properties.
